The Valve Steam Machine is a high-end, compact, console-like gaming PC designed to bring the player's entire PC game library into the living room natively. After discontinuing third-party "Steam Machines" a decade ago, Valve officially reintroduced its own first-party version on June 29, 2026. The third-party accessory brand JSAUX has developed an electronic ink front panel that fits the Steam Machine.
Hardware accessory brand JSAUX has already laid the foundation for Steam Machine peripherals, revealing earlier this week that it is "working on" some customizable panels. We are now seeing the first physical prototypes (not 3D renders) for three distinct models: two feature E-ink displays, while the third is a dot-matrix panel, which JSAUX describes as "the fun one."
JSAUX quickly gathered fan expectations for the Steam Machine front panel at the end of last year; given the multiple delays of the square mini-PC itself, there has been ample time to consider these accessories. The company finalized three designs and is currently running a poll in its Discord server to ask fans which one should be released first.
JSAUX states that due to the low power consumption of E-ink screens, both ink models (monochrome and color) have built-in batteries for independent power supply and do not drain the Steam Machine's battery. The color dot-matrix model requires external power and uses the Steam Machine's rear port. Another Discord poll is asking if this requirement is "acceptable" to users.
The three upcoming products are: Monochrome E-ink – a low-power, always-on display that naturally blends with the Steam Machine; Color E-ink – similar in concept to the other ink panel but with a smaller screen and richer colors; Color Dot Matrix – real-time updates without delay, offering "unlimited pixelated possibilities." These front panels are set to launch soon, with pricing not yet listed on the company's website, but a mail subscription is available for purchase notifications.
