暑假里陪儿子在家附近的书店闲逛，偶然注意到《被讨厌的勇气》这本书。店里正好有一本样书可以翻看，我就带着它到阅读区读了起来。
印象中，我对这本书有些耳闻，十年前它就已经是畅销书，专门回应那些“渴望摆脱人际关系中的内耗、重新建立自我认知”的年轻人所面对的困惑。
而我恰好就是这样的人：容易内耗，容易在意别人的目光，也常常被人情世故所困扰。这些年虽然慢慢在认识自己、也在练习正念，却总觉得没能从根子上解决问题。而这本书讨论的，似乎正是这些问题的源头。我真心想读一读，希望从中找到一些答案。
可惜在书店的时间有限，没法读完。那本书打着 6.5 折，我最终还是没买，想着回头去多抓鱼淘一本二手的。
后来暑假一忙，买书这事就被我抛到了脑后。直到周末又一次路过那家书店，才重新想起来。如今开学了，总算能腾出时间好好读一读。
多抓鱼上的价格是 11 元多，并不贵。但买实体书会增添物品负担，与我奉行的极简习惯相悖。于是我琢磨着，能不能下载电子书到 Kindle 上看？
纸质书固然有它独特的温度，但对于践行极简、低消费的我来说，电子书或许是更合适的选择。
于是，我开始搜索哪里可以下载免费电子书。
这一搜，真像是打开了一扇新世界的大门。

原来，有一个叫 Z-Library 的网站，收录了大量电子书与文献资料，而且全部免费。据说这个网站几年前曾被封禁，创始人也被捕。但它采用了镜像网址机制，通过不断更换域名、借助 Telegram 机器人等方式继续运营，因此很难被彻底封禁。对于学生党和预算有限的人来说，这成了一个宝贵的资源。
有网友提示：不管网址怎么变，只要记住“zlib.re”就能找到。我试了一下，果然能顺利进入，用邮箱注册一个账号就可以使用了。
里面的电子书非常丰富，一进去，仿佛走进了一座庞大的虚拟图书馆，广阔书海，任我挑选。我很快找到了想要的书，可以免费下载 EPUB 格式的电子书。
不过，我的 Kindle 还是以前的国内账号。亚马逊退出中国市场后，邮件推送电子书的方式已经走不通了，只能用数据线拷贝。但 Kindle 对 EPUB 格式的支持有限，直接拷进去无法阅读。只有通过邮件发送，系统才会自动转换。所以我需要把 EPUB 转换成其他格式。
适合Kindle的常用电子书格式有pdf、txt、AZW3 等。但之前我有一个 pdf 格式的电子书，在 Kindle 里的阅读体验太差了。因为我的 Kindle 尺寸较小，想要显示全 pdf 的一页，字就会特别小。把字放大了看，又不能显示全一页，还得左右滑动，特别麻烦。所以我决定转 AZW3 格式，这是 Kindle 原生支持的最好格式。
网上推荐了一款叫 calibre 的转换软件，免费且好用。可惜它只支持 macOS14.0 及以上的版本，我的系统太低，内存也不大，升级可能会让电脑变得更慢。
最后，我找到了一个网页版文件转换器——Convertio，直接上传、转换、下载即可，非常方便。我很顺利地把EPUB 文件转成了 AZW3，拷进 Kindle 后打开一看，字号与排版都非常舒服。
我终于可以舒适地用 Kindle 继续看书了。而且一想到今后可以通过这种方式读到很多书，心里就很欣喜。

当然，Z-Library虽然提供了极大的便利，但它确实存在版权问题，这也正是它被查封的原因。如果想要支持作者、支持正版，还是应该购买正版书、或在正规平台购买电子书。

During the summer vacation, I took my son to a bookstore near our house, and I happened to notice the book "The Courage to Be Disliked." There was a sample copy in the store that I could browse, so I took it to the reading area and started reading.
In my impression, I had heard of this book before. It had been a bestseller for ten years, specifically addressing the confusion of young people who "wish to escape the exhaustion of interpersonal relationships and re-establish their self-identity."
I am precisely such a person: easily drained, overly sensitive to others' opinions, and often troubled by social niceties. Although I have gradually learned to recognize myself and practice mindfulness over the years, I always feel that I haven't addressed the root cause of the problem. This book discusses the very source of these issues, which is why I genuinely want to read it and hope to find some answers.
Unfortunately, time at the bookstore was limited, and I couldn't finish reading it. The book was discounted by 6.5%, but I decided not to buy it and instead planned to look for a used copy on DuoGuaYu later.
Later, the summer got busy, and I forgot about buying the book. It wasn't until I passed by the same bookstore again over the weekend that I remembered it. Now that school has started, I finally have the time to read carefully.
The price on DuoGuaYu is over 11 yuan, which is not expensive. However, acquiring a physical book adds material burden, which contradicts my minimalist philosophy. So, I wondered if I could download an e-book to my Kindle?
While paper books have their own warmth, for someone like me who practices minimalism and low consumption, e-books are likely the more appropriate choice.
Thus, I began searching for where I could download free e-books.
This search felt like opening a door to a new world.

It turns out there is a website called Z-Library, which hosts a vast collection of e-books and academic materials, all for free. It is said that the website was banned a few years ago and the founder was arrested. However, it employs a mirror URL mechanism, continually changing its domain and utilizing Telegram bots to continue operation, making it very difficult to be completely blocked. For students and those on a budget, this has become a valuable resource.
A netizen pointed out: no matter how the URL changes, just remember "zlib.re" and you can find it. I tried it, and sure enough, I was able to enter smoothly. I registered an account with my email, and I was ready to use it.
The e-books inside are incredibly rich. Entering the site is like walking into a massive virtual library, with an ocean of books to choose from. I quickly found the one I wanted and could download the EPUB format e-book for free.
However, my Kindle still uses the old Chinese account. After Amazon withdrew from the Chinese market, sending e-books via email no longer works, and I have to copy them via data cable. But the Kindle has limited support for the EPUB format; copying it directly results in unreadable content. The system only automatically converts it if sent via email. So I needed to convert the EPUB to a different format.
Common e-book formats for Kindle include pdf, txt, and AZW3. However, my reading experience with a pdf-formatted e-book on Kindle was poor. Because my Kindle screen is small, displaying a full pdf page makes the text extremely tiny. Enlarging the text cuts off parts of the page, requiring horizontal scrolling, which is inconvenient. So I decided to convert it to AZW3, the best-supported native format for Kindle.
The internet recommended a free and useful conversion software called Calibre. Unfortunately, it only supports macOS 14.0 or later, and my system is too old with limited RAM. Upgrading it might make my computer even slower.
In the end, I found a web-based file converter called Convertio. I simply uploaded the file, converted it, and downloaded it. It was very convenient. I successfully converted the EPUB file to AZW3, copied it to the Kindle, and opened it to find that the font size and layout were very comfortable.
I can finally continue reading comfortably on my Kindle. The thought of being able to read many books in the future in this way fills me with joy.

Of course, while Z-Library provides immense convenience, it does have copyright issues, which is precisely why it was raided. If you wish to support the authors and promote legal copies, you should purchase genuine physical books or buy e-books from legitimate platforms.
