IT Home, October 3 news — the Sony PS5 console was recently cracked by developer Nathan Fargo: users only need to change the PS5's DNS to a specific IP to quickly jailbreak the console and run various custom software. However as of IT Home's publication, that cracking approach only applies to firmware version 13.60 and earlier.
And according to data miner PlayStation Game Size, the retail version of GTA 6 requires PS5 to be on the 14.10.00 (latest) platform firmware, meaning those who run custom software on older platform versions may not get to play GTA 6 first-hand — though it cannot be ruled out that developers later modify the GTA 6 game package so it can run on older platform versions.
GTA 6 is currently scheduled for release on November 19, still some time before official launch, so the specific platform version requirements for the final retail version may still change.
Meanwhile, research into PS5 platform security mechanisms continues, with researchers exploring other platform-level vulnerabilities. Even if players update their PS5 to a 14.X version now, it remains likely that cracking approaches for that model will be found later.
