IT之家, October 1 — Google's Gboard Japan team has released its annual "creative experiment" model, a keyboard that moves on its own.
According to the official description, traditional computer keyboards require two hands. When users try to type with one hand or a single finger, they have to move their arm or palm significantly.
The Gboard Japan team came up with a new idea: "What if the keyboard moves instead of the user?" This way, users don't need to move their arms while typing — the keys come to them.
This model, called "Gboard Carousel," arranges all the keys on rotating conveyor belts. As the belts spin, you don't have to reach for keys — you just press them as they pass by. Each belt has 29 keys, allowing direct input of uppercase and lowercase letters, making the operation "extraordinarily intuitive."
With this keyboard, users can type all characters with one hand. You can even drink tea while typing or use a mouse simultaneously. And if you use both hands, your productivity might even double!
There are no immediate plans to sell this model, but Google has open-sourced the design. The team is considering more color options and longer versions that support additional characters.
