IT Home, October 1 — The Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme (FIM) and the World Superbike Championship (WorldSBK) announced today the 2027 season calendar, confirming that WorldSBK will make its debut in China in 2027.
As previously reported, the Chinese round is scheduled for October 29–31, 2027 at the Shanghai International Circuit, serving as the season finale. Shanghai Jiushi Motion Entertainment & Cultural Tourism Group Co., Ltd. has reached a strategic partnership with DORNA WorldSBK ORGANIZATION SRL.
IT Home Note: WorldSBK was founded by FIM in 1988 and stands alongside MotoGP as one of the world's two premier circuit motorcycle racing championships. WorldSBK competition bikes are modified from mass-produced production motorcycles, unlike MotoGP prototype racers.
WorldSBK currently features the WorldSBK premier 1000cc class, the WorldSSP supersport middleweight class, the new WorldSPB entry-level advanced class, and the WorldWCR women's professional class.
The 2026 season comprises 12 rounds broadcast across approximately 150 countries and regions. The 2027 China round will be the final event of the season.
The Shanghai International Circuit is located in Jiading District, Shanghai. Opened in 2004, its design was led by German track architect Hermann Tilke. The circuit layout draws inspiration from the Chinese character "上" (Shàng), featuring several distinctive corner combinations.
The track has long hosted international and domestic motorsport events including Formula One and the Chinese Touring Car Championship. WorldSBK's arrival in Shanghai means China enters the global WorldSBK race map.
Zhang Xue Motorcycle founder Zhang Xue also posted a video expressing congratulations and saying he looks forward to meeting in Shanghai, China.
In recent years, Chinese motorcycle manufacturers have increased their participation in WorldSBK, with brands such as CFMOTO continuing to invest. In the 2026 season, Chinese manufacturer Zhang Xue Motorcycle entered WorldSBK, with its 820RR-RS competing in the WorldSSP class. Rider Valentin Debise currently has eight podium finishes, including six victories.
WorldSBK Executive Director Gregorio Lavilla stated that bringing WorldSBK to China for the first time is a key milestone for the championship, adding that Chinese manufacturers have been exerting growing influence in the series. He said hosting the event in Shanghai will further strengthen the connection between the championship and Chinese manufacturers, and provide an opportunity to bring WorldSBK closer to Chinese fans. He expressed anticipation for working with local partners to make the China debut an unforgettable season finale in 2027.
Gu Jiqing, Vice President of Shanghai Jiushi Group, said Jiushi Motion Entertainment will integrate its event operations, venue management and other resources, and explore an "event + industry" integration model through the引进 of WorldSBK. He noted that this can leverage the international event platform to connect motorcycle brands, racing resources and consumer demand, providing a new platform for domestic motorcycle brands to compete internationally, showcase their brands and exchange industry insights.
Shanghai has already hosted international events such as Formula One and the FIM Motocross World Championship. WorldSBK's落户 at the Shanghai International Circuit will complement the existing events with a different discipline.
