Amazon plans to release an entry-level 12th generation Kindle e-reader by the end of this year, available in four color options, with the power button relocated to a new position. A new Kids edition device will also launch alongside it.
Before the official announcement, images of this reader have been leaked online. The new device will be available in four colors: black, green, light blue, and purple; the body features a rounded-corner design, and the power button has been moved from the back to the top.
Marketing images show two variants of the Kindle: one with a recessed screen, and the other protected by a glass layer. It is unclear whether Amazon will launch two distinct models, or whether the recessed screen version will serve as the primary 12th generation model, with the glass screen version used for the 12th generation Kindle Kids edition. The Kids edition also appears to come with a newly developed case.
All information about this new Kindle comes from leaked photos, and no official details have been provided yet. We are still awaiting more specifics on device dimensions, front light, storage capacity, waterproof rating, and whether other Kindle devices will receive simultaneous updates. The timeline and release date for this new device also remain unclear.
