Atty Eleti, OpenAI's voice product manager, announced a major overhaul of ChatGPT Voice: users can now freely choose models and reasoning depth during voice conversations. Pro subscribers can directly access heavy-weight models such as GPT-5.6 Sol or GPT-6 Astra. Whenever a web search or complex logic task is triggered during a conversation, the voice system automatically hands the request off to the designated powerful model, and each handoff counts as a separate message.
Usage rules have also been overhauled: GPT-Live's daily allowance is now simplified into four tiers—the Go tier provides up to 3 hours of GPT-Live-1mini (and no longer includes the basic GPT-Live-1); the Plus tier provides up to 3 hours of GPT-Live-1; the Pro tier ($100/month) provides up to 15 hours of GPT-Live-1; and the top Pro tier ($200/month) offers unlimited GPT-Live-1.
A user-friendly detail: once Plus or Pro users exhaust their voice allowance, the system will no longer silently downgrade them to GPT-Live mini.
The previous three voice intelligence levels—Instant, Medium, and High—have officially been retired.
