NVIDIA announces a landmark deal to supply over 260,000 advanced AI chips to key Korean firms like Samsung and LG, positioning Korea as a new hub for AI technology. This milestone transaction comes as NVIDIA’s value rises to $5 trillion and US-China trade dynamics shift.

In this significant move, NVIDIA partners with the Korean government and major tech companies including Samsung and LG to deliver more than 260,000 AI chips for industrial applications. The deal aims to boost Korea’s AI capabilities while helping NVIDIA navigate international trade complexities centered on China. The announcement coincides with NVIDIA becoming the first company valued at $5 trillion, highlighting its central role in global AI infrastructure expansion.

The US chip giant will supply over 260,000 of its most advanced AI chips to the South Korean government and firms like Samsung, LG, and Hyundai. These companies will deploy AI chips in factories manufacturing products from semiconductors and robots to autonomous vehicles. NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang states this allows Korea to now export “intelligence” as a new product category.

Huang did not disclose the financial value of the Korean deal. For NVIDIA, this is the final chapter of a busy week where it became the first $5 trillion company on Wednesday and saw signs of easing US-China trade tensions that could allow more chip exports to China on Thursday.

At the APEC CEO Summit in Gyeongju, Korea, Huang added that these chips will enable firms to create digital twins of factories worldwide. The deals are part of NVIDIA’s latest global push to expand AI infrastructure and integrate AI into products and services. NVIDIA’s active pursuit of international partnerships has driven it to become the world’s first $5 trillion corporation.

Stuck in the middle

The Korean deal was sealed as NVIDIA grapples with the aftermath of the US-China trade war. China accounted for over a tenth of NVIDIA’s revenue last year, but access to NVIDIA chips has been a friction point in China’s relations with Washington. “We used to have 95% of the AI market share in China, now it’s 0%. I’m disappointed,” Huang said in Gyeongju.

Last Friday, Huang indicated hope for new policies that would allow chips to be sold back to China. He emphasized the mutual benefits of US technology in the Chinese market: “It’s in the best interest of the US to have a Chinese market, and it’s in the interest of China to have an American company bring the technology.”

AI power

Korea is committed to becoming a regional AI hub with its strong semiconductor and automotive industries. The deal with NVIDIA is part of a broader strategy where the Korean government plans to build a compute infrastructure for nationally driven AI construction.

NVIDIA’s reliance on the Asian supply chain is critical to its operations — it designs chips while collaborating with manufacturers like Samsung, SK Hynix, and TSMC. Ongoing US-China trade tensions continue to shape NVIDIA’s market access and partnerships.
