Sourcegraph's AI-powered programming tool, Amp, has officially announced that as long as users provide their own computing resources and model subscriptions/keys, they can use the service for free, with no monthly subscription plan required. The Teams tier involves no extra fees and is open to teams of any size. They share portals, plugins, and skills, with user management, controls, and analytics available. There is a unified billing system and shared quota pool, along with SAML/OIDC single sign-on support, custom domain portals, and the ability to use tokens from any source, bind to ChatGPT and other subscriptions, utilize BYOK, and avoid token fees or limits.
What This Means for Megawatt and Gigawatt Members
On average, Megawatt members save 40% and Gigawatt members save 35% on their Amp usage. This discount remains, while the sources for feeding tokens to orbs have expanded. With this change, users are no longer limited by their ChatGPT subscription quotas and can connect to other model providers or enterprise-preferred AI gateways without any amp-side token fees or limits.
What This Means for Teams
Amp has eliminated the primary barriers to adoption for teams regarding cost and security. Now, everyone can be invited to the workspace for free, sharing threads, portals, and collaborating in real-time. Everyone can use Amp with their ChatGPT subscription or enterprise-preferred AI gateway (BYOK) without a monthly fee. Heavy users can upgrade to the paid tier for significant orb discounts, while others remain in the free Hobby tier, consuming the workspace's shared quota pool. Furthermore, if at least one member in the workspace is on a paid tier, the entire workspace gains free SAML/OIDC single sign-on.
Amp also announces that its zero-data and minimal-data retention policy has been officially extended to all users and workspaces, no longer limited to Enterprise. This policy, which effectively governed all Amp usage, could previously only be guaranteed via contract to Enterprise customers.
More BYOK Options
Coinciding with these updates, Megawatt and Gigawatt members now have early access to a broader range of BYOK providers, including OpenRouter, Amazon Bedrock, Google Cloud Agent Platform (formerly Vertex AI), Azure Foundry, Vercell AI Gateway, Cloudflare AI Gateway, Ollama Cloud, OpenCode Go, and custom endpoint URLs. Users can enable these by activating the "More AI Routers & Subscriptions" experimental feature and configuring them in the personal or workspace model routing settings. This capability will soon be available to all users.
