Amazon has been pushing out software updates on a regular basis and from time to time, introduces new features, but lately they break things and then try to patch them. However, it is the Kindle app for iOS that has been receiving a bunch of new features and enhancements that the Kindle e-reader might never get.

Amazon is making it easier to stay immersed in your books with Kindle for iOS and iPad, designed to elevate your reading experience. Whether you’re returning to a story you’ve set aside, jumping back into a series, or simply want to better understand what you’re reading, these features help you get more out of every book—without spoilers or disrupting your flow. However, most of these new things are only available for US readers.

Returning to a book or series after a break can be challenging when you’re trying to remember what happened. Kindle Recaps provides quick refreshers for books you’ve already read while preserving the joy of discovery, much like the “Previously on…” segment before a show.

Returning to a book or series after a break can be challenging when you’re trying to remember what happened. Kindle Recaps provides quick refreshers for books you’ve already read while preserving the joy of discovery, much like the “Previously on…” segment before a show.

Recaps are available on both Kindle devices and the Kindle iOS app in the U.S. To access Recaps for supported Kindle books, look for the “View Recaps” button on the series page in your Kindle Library. On Kindle devices, select “View Recaps” from the three-dot menu within the series grouping. On the Kindle iOS app, the same option appears when you press and hold the series grouping.

Starting today, Recaps also include spoiler-free refreshers up to where you’ve read, with Story So Far, available for thousands of popular fiction titles. Whether you’re enjoying a mystery thriller or the latest entry in an epic fantasy, you can get quick refreshers on storylines and character arcs, making it easier than ever to return to the worlds and characters that captivate you without backtracking through chapters.

Story So Far

Story So Far is available on the Kindle iOS app in the U.S. To determine whether a book has Story So Far, look for the “Read recap” button that appears when you press and hold a book in your Kindle Library. You can access Story So Far at any time in the Kindle iOS app by tapping the three-dot menu in the book while reading.

Ask this Book

 - Good e-Reader

Ask this Book serves as your expert reading assistant, instantly answering questions about plot details, character relationships, and thematic elements without disrupting your reading flow. All responses provide immediate, contextual information up to your current reading position, but you can also ask questions about the entire book. Simply highlight any passage in a book you’ve bought or borrowed, and Ask this Book lets you ask questions about what you’re reading, right on the page.

Ask this Book is currently available on the Kindle iOS app in the U.S. and will expand to Kindle devices and the Android OS app later this year. Find the feature in the in-book menu or simply highlight any passage as you read. From there,
